This year’s WASH CSOs Forum will emphasize the importance of holistic approaches and improved coordination to effectively address Uganda’s development challenges. The forum will focus on sustainable resource management, increased investment in science, technology, and innovation, and the development of human capital. It will also highlight the critical role of private sector engagement and the need for stronger regulatory frameworks to foster economic growth and enhance resilience against environmental and climate-related risks.
Objectives of the WASH CSOs Forum:
- To provide a platform for CSOs to share their perspectives on WASH policy gaps and offer recommendations.
- To engage policymakers from various MDAs in adopting CSO-recommended policies.
- To assess the overall contribution of CSOs to the National Development Plan (NDP) IV.
- To foster learning and collaboration among CSOs, Development Partners, Academia, the Private Sector, and policymakers.
Expected Outputs:
- Information sharing on the progress made since the first National Development Plan (NDP).
- A compilation of existing gaps, bottlenecks, and recommendations for different stakeholders, including the Government.
- Dissemination of key sector studies by Ugandan WASH stakeholders.
- Exhibitions showcasing WASH-resilient technologies by various sector players, including the private sector.
- An award ceremony recognizing the contributions of various WASH stakeholders.
Expected Outcomes:
- Amplified CSO voices and influence: The forum is expected to provide a platform for CSOs to share research, data, and best practices, facilitating dialogue with policymakers and government representatives to influence WASH policy and programming.
- Strengthened partnerships and capacity: The forum is anticipated to foster partnerships among CSOs, development partners, private sector players, and other stakeholders, resulting in enhanced capacity, knowledge, and skills sharing on WASH advocacy, programming, and implementation.
- Promotion of knowledge and innovation: The forum will showcase innovative solutions, technologies, and success stories in WASH, promoting their replication.
To achieve these objectives, UWASNET will organize sessions on various topics through Thematic Working Groups.
