UWASNET OVER VIEW:
Driven by a vision of All people accessing improved and sustainable water resources, sanitation and hygiene programs; UWASNET was founded in the year 2000 as the umbrella organization for all Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) operating in the Water and Sanitation sub-sector. UWASNET’s mandate is to coordinate all CSOs and strengthen their contribution to the sector by facilitating learning and sharing, documentation of CSOs work and promoting partnerships and collaborations with other sector stakeholders, including Government, development partners and the private sector.
UWASNET through Other CSOs contributes to cross-cutting issues in the sector including gender, equity, and HIV/AIDS and operates under three strategic objectives of the Network including Improved response of state and non-state actors to citizens demand for sustainable and inclusive water resources, sanitation, and hygiene programs, Strengthened coordination and collaboration of WASH service delivery among state and non-state actors in water resources, sanitation and hygiene, Strengthened institutional capacity of UWASNET to effectively, efficiently and sustainably deliver its mandate.
WASH COORDINATION BY UWASNET:
UWASNET has a membership of more than 200 CSOs including international, national, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and private sector. These CSOs work all over Uganda and are contributing to the Water and Environment sector through the following thematic areas; Hygiene and sanitation, WASH Technologies, Integrated Water Resources Management, WASH Technologies, Good governance, Women, Children and other vulnerable groups.
Relatedly, to enhance her coordination mandate, UWASNET operates through a ten regional structures with each region having an average of 13 districts where coordination of the WASH systems is decentralized. This kind of arrangement supports to identify issues at a regional level which are then scaled to National level for further advocacy, influencing, financing and planning.
