As part of the 22 years’ anniversary commemorations for UWASNET, a foundation stone was laid by the State Minister for Water Hon. Aisha Sekindi, who was represented by Mr. Joseph Epitu, the Commissioner, Water and Environment Sector Liaison Department, Ministry of Water and Environment.
This was during the launch of UWASNET’s new strategic plan for 2022/2026 and the celebration of the network’s 22 years anniversary as the national umbrella organization for non-governmental organisations operating in the Water and Environment sector of Uganda.
The laying of the Foundation stone for the WASH House was witnessed by key sector representatives from Ministry of Water and Environment, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, Members of Parliament under the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on WASH, the Mayor of Nakawa Division, Austria Development Cooperation, GIZ, World Bank, UWASNET new members of the board member organisations who included IRC Uganda, WaterAid Uganda, World Vision, Whave Solutions, Amref Health Africa, Katosi Women Development Trust, Lifewater International, Living Water International, International Aid Services, Voluntary Action for Development, RICE West Nile etc.
Several other special guests also participated in the laying of the Foundation stone including former UWASNET Executive Director Doreen Wandera Kabasindi, the late Monica Kunihira’s brother, UWASNET former staff, media, and other dignitaries.
The UWASNET WASH House is a dream plan for UWANSET that will house offices, apartments, commercial rentals, as a sustainable source of funding to finance UWASNET’s operational costs and other investments aimed at improving members’ membership experiences.
UWASNET will conduct fundraising drives nationwide and reaching out to its members and partners to contribute towards the construction of the UWASNET WASH House.
