Ministry of Water & Environment Joint Technical Review meeting set for July 29th, 2020 via ZOOM

The Joint Technical Review (JTR) for the Water and Environment sector organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) is planned to be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020. The meeting will be online due to the Covid-19 restrictions / Standard Operating procedures which do not necessitate large gatherings.

As a result, only 50 people comprising of MWE staff, sector political leaders, heads of sector semi-autonomous parastatals (NWSC. NFA, NEMA, UNMA) and key sector development partners.

The rest of the participants will join the JTR via ZOOM. The Ministry of Water and Environment will share the ZOOM link ahead of the meeting.

UWASNET will share the link to the meeting with all its member organizations and partners in our database via email and social media for their participation.

The JTR is held to monitor sector progress on the undertakings committed to by the sector.

The sector undertakings up for review during the JTR are as following;

  1. Undertaking 1: Finalize the mainstreaming guidelines and support preparation of sector specific mainstreaming guidelines for the 4 remaining high impact sectors by FY2019/2020
  2. Undertaking 2: Put in place a strategy and action plan for accelerated implementation of the mainstreaming guidelines including capacity building, resource mobilizing and a framework for reporting by FY2019/2020
  3. Undertaking 3: Prepare a study to guide Parliament in increased financing of Climate Change interventions including contribution from other MDAs by FY2019/2020
  4. Undertaking 4: Prepare at least 4 project proposals for approval to be funded under the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Adaptation Fund by MWE and Local Governments spearheaded by the de-concentrated units focusing in ENR by FY2019/2020
  5. Undertaking 5: Upgrade 13 water schemes in refugee hosting districts and integrate management of existing water supply and sanitation into utility management structures sustainably
  6. Undertaking 6: Restore degraded hotspots within the refugee hosting micro-catchments
  7. Undertaking 7: Conduct a comprehensive review to identify the causes of water supply inequity and identify strategies to address them by FY2019/2020
  8. Undertaking 8: Develop and document a sustainable financing strategy for the Umbrella Authorities by FY2019/2020
  9. Undertaking 9: Develop a management framework for fecal sludge service chain including business aspects by end of FY2019/2020
  10. Undertaking 10: Disseminate the sanitation monitoring indicators, measurement framework and develop an improved MIS system (digital based) by FY2019/2020
  11. Undertaking 11: Develop a national masterplan for improved coverage of safely managed sanitation by FY2019/2020
  12. Undertaking 12: Develop a strategy and plan for joint action to enforcement and compliance to Water and Environment laws using the Ministry of Water and Environment regional structures and Local Governments
  13. Undertaking 13: Review the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process including approvals, monitoring and enforcing conditions in the EIA certificates
