Highlights from the Gender Thematic Working Group Meeting

The Women, Children and other Vulnerable Groups Thematic Working Group held their last quarterly meeting this year today at the Secretariat with an informative and reflective agenda that included an open discussion on key outcomes for the working group where key advocacy issues were highlighted. As part of the meeting, members namely PACT and UMURDA shared their experiences on implementing projects that directly impact the marginalized groups.

Vaal Benjamin from Katosi Women’s Development Trust (KWDT), the Chair of the thematic working group conducted a training in understanding Menstrual Hygiene Management and Sexually Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) which was greatly appreciated by members. Vaal and ARUWE are participating in a Training of Trainers training, a capacity building project on MHH and SRHR implemented in partnership with SRHR Alliance Uganda. After the training, the Trainers will be able to update MHM manual including SRHR components, develop trainers’ facilitation guide and train pre- and in service school teachers

During the quarterly meeting, the thematic working group reviewed their action plan and shared their progress report.

Participants present were Ms. Susan Nalukenge from Union of Community Development Volunteers (UCDV), George Masuba from Partners for Children Worldwide, Winfred Muhumuza from Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment (ARUWE), Wakate Jiida from UMURDA, Spera Atuhairwe from Lifewater International, Vaal Benjamin from KWDT, Nakubulwa B from MUMYO.
